What are journey-based programs?
Whether you’re seeking a one-day escape or ten-day expedition, we’ll craft a unique journey that’s suitable for all ages, abilities and your group’s needs.
Hike through breathtaking alpine landscapes and lush bushland. Canoe across majestic rivers, cycle along scenic trails and summit Victoria’s highest mountains. At night, sleep beneath a blanket of stars.
These journeys provide more than just an outdoor experience. They’re about forming a connection to and appreciation for the natural world. They’re about building confidence and resilience, developing teamwork skills and learning to be self-sufficient.
Above all, they’re about making amazing memories to last a lifetime.

What will participants eat on the journey?
Participants will eat some pre-made meals, however most meals are prepared by participants with instructions from our journey leaders. We’ll show them how to prepare and cook healthy and nutritious meals while out in nature, using the food they’ve carried in their hiking packs.
In remote places during the journey, where terrain is tough-going or where journeys are longer, participants will also eat dehydrated camping food (which is lighter to carry).
Almost every journey includes a very high ratio of fresh food. -
Can you accommodate specific dietary requirements?
Absolutely! Our friendly team and chefs will work directly with the school and / or parents to provide quality meals that meet specific dietary requirements.
In rare cases, participants may need to provide their own food and if so we’ll accommodate how it can be carried and cooked. -
Where do participants sleep and what accommodation is provided?
Participants will sleep in tents along the journey, allowing for a fully immersive experience in nature. There’s nothing better than sleeping under the stars!
Depending on the route taken, most groups will camp at a site nearby a hut and drop toilet. Some sites will have running water sources and protection from the weather.
If no hut or refuge is available, we can erect group shelters. We also have safe, hygienic and environmentally friendly alternatives if no drop toilets are available.
For groups journeying with Howmans Gap Discovery Camp, we have a hard-top accommodation facility conveniently located nearby our routes. With comfortable accommodation for up to 210 people, a full commercial kitchen and laundry facilities, this is a great back-up option in severe bad weather. -
Are your journey-based programs accessible for participants with additional needs?
Some routes can be made accessible depending on the participant’s needs. Howmans Gap, for example, have an accessible Trail Rider wheelchair. For more information about how we can cater to you, please enquire. -
What group sizes do participants travel in?
The maximum group size will depend on your route and will be in line with Parks Victoria guidelines. Typically, groups will be fewer than 12 people (including staff and journey leaders). -
What safety measures do you have in place?
All our journeys are led by certified, experienced and first aid trained outdoor educators. We carry communication devices at all times and have 24/7 live tracking and emergency support available to ensure the safety of participants.
