Howmans Gap Discovery Camp is an alpine centre and adventure camp located by Falls Creek in Victoria, open all-year round.
We welcome schools, families and community groups, and offer a variety of fun programs and activities.
Adventure among snow-covered mountains, experience the thrill of skiing and snowboarding, and watch snow settle from the warmth of your room.
When summer arrives, try archery and hiking, go canoeing on our beautiful lake, or cycle through green nature trails with blue skies stretching overhead.

Enjoy our spectacular alpine environment through activities like:

We can also tailor activities to your group’s needs. Whether you’re taking on new challenges, developing teamwork skills, or connecting with nature, our camp leaders will help you have an unforgettable experience.
Accessible alpine accommodation
Want to get cosy after a day in the snow? Or relax after adventures under the sun? Our accommodation is the perfect base for family, community and school groups.
Stay in private rooms, a self-catered cottage, or our fully accessible, state-of-the-art Access All Abilities (AAA) building – all set within the Victorian Alps.
Our camp facilities also include sports courts, nature trails, a ski drying room and bike shed. We also have indoor leisure and meeting facilities.

What's the minimum group size for a school snow camp?
Schools and groups must have a minimum of 20 people. Some winter weekends are open to individuals, such as Ski de Femme and the Hoppet weekend. In summer, individuals can stay with us for the Peaks Challenge. All of our stays have a two night minimum.

What winter activities do you offer?

Are snow activities seasonal?
Yes. Skiing and tobogganing are winter activities. Mountain biking, canoeing, abseiling, and the giant swing are green season (spring and summer) only. -
Can beginners join snow activities?
Yes, people of all abilities are welcome to join our snow activities – whether you've hit the slopes before or are trying it for the first time. Please note that snow activities are provided for schools only.

Is snow gear provided or hired separately?
We provide all snow gear for schools doing cross country skiing or snow camping with us.

Are the roads to Howmans Gap affected by snow?
The roads to Howmans Gap can be affected by snow. While heavy snowfall will be cleared from the roads, it is mandatory to carry snow chains during the declared winter season. You will rarely have to fit them, but it is a possibility. Even if there is no snow, you must carry chains.

What happens if there's no snow, or the road to Howmans Gap is closed?
There are lots of activities at Howmans Gap that don't involve snow, so there's always something fun to do. If there is extreme snow and the road closes, the camp would also be closed as there would be no way to get here. Rest assured, this would be an incredibly rare situation as it has not happened to us yet!

The Alpine Accessible Accommodation building is fully accessible and the camp is suited for everybody. We also have a ‘changing places’ room.

What should campers pack for alpine weather?
It's important to be prepared for all weather conditions, all year round at Howmans Gap. We've once had snow in December! Please bring a warm jacket, a rain jacket, long pants and closed toe shoes. We also recommend having a full set of spare clothes available. If you're coming with your school, we will provide you with a specific packing list.
