Get ready for a school holiday adventure with the Bush Nippers program by Life Saving Victoria!

This exciting program offers children aged five to 14 the chance to explore the great outdoors while learning essential water safety skills. Through fun games, challenges, and physical activities, kids will gain confidence in and around the water.

Led by experienced instructors from Life Saving Victoria, the Bush Nippers program is designed to be inclusive and engaging, ensuring a safe, educational and fun experience. It’s the perfect way to keep kids active and learning during the school holidays while giving them the tools they need to stay safe around water.

Please note that this is a lifesaving and water safety program, not a learn-to-swim course.

  • What are the requirements for participation?

    All children and young people that wish to be part of the program must:

    • be aged five to 14 years old;
    • complete a preliminary skills assessment prior to commencing activities in the water and / or discuss child’s swimming ability with the Lake Dewar Discovery Camps before enrolling;
    • have a parent or carer present for the entire program;
    • surpass the criteria outlined for their age group.
  • How does my child complete a preliminary skill assessment?
    Your child may already have received a certificate from their swimming lessons stating the competencies met. Alternatively, you may contact the delivery partner and request an assessment – please take the above criteria for their reference.
  • Does my child need to meet the necessary criteria?

    Participant swimming ability evaluations are in place to ensure that participants are able to swim and float. This ensures their safety when participating in programming in an open water environment or pool.

    By registering your child or children into the program you are agreeing that they meet the standard required for the age group or please discuss options with us for your child to safely participate.

  • What does my child need to bring on the day?
    • Any medication requirements (parent / guardian to have with them)
    • Bathers
    • Drink bottle
    • Enclosed shoes (recommended)
    • Light snack for morning tea
    • Lightweight long-sleeved shirt
    • SPF 30+ sunscreen
    • Sunglasses
    • Warm clothing and spare towel (in case of cool weather)
    • Wetsuit (optional)
    • Wide brimmed hat

    Participants will be provided with a rash top to wear during the program and a lifesaving cap.
