Travelling by road is a convenient way to access Falls Creek that also allows you to experience North East Victoria's beautiful countryside.

Falls Creek is the closet alpine resort to Albury, a four and half hour drive from Melbourne and a comfortable days drive from Sydney.

During winter months Falls Creek can only be approached via an entry point at Mount Beauty.

A resort entry permit is required if you wish to take your vehicle into the resort during your stay.

Further details on entry permits are listed below.

    Snow chains

During the snow season it is a legal requirement that all vehicles entering the resort carry snow chains.

The Falls Creek website includes a list of local retailers that motorists can hire snow chains from.

Motorists found not to be carrying snow chains will incur a substantial fine.

    Arriving by coach (bus)

Coach travel is one of the most popular forms of transport for visitors not driving themselves to the snow.

It is safe and convenient option that removes the need to organise snow chains or drive in icy conditions.

We have a long standing relationship with Falls Creek Coach Service, who have been providing transfer services for over 40 years.

Their coaches provide transfers from Melbourne, Euroa, Myrtleford and Albury.

Guests can request to be dropped off or picked up at Howmans Gap Alpine Centre when booking their transfers.

    Air travel

Flying to Falls Creek is more convenient than you think.

Guests travelling from Sydney or Melbourne can arrive in less than four hours.

Guests wanting to access Falls Creek Resort by car are required to purchase an entry permit for the length of their stay.

Howmans Gap Alpine Centre is located outside the gates of Falls Creek Resort, so a permit is not required to access our accommodation.

However, if you wish to take your vehicle into the resort during your stay and entry permit will be required.

Entry permits can available to purchase on the Falls Creek website.

    Bus transfer service

Howmans Gap operates a bus which is normally used to transfer large school groups into the resort.

  • Lift tickets

Looking to hit the Falls Creek slopes during your stay?

Skiers and snowboarders will need to purchase lift tickets from Falls Creek resort to engage with the mountains snow sport activities.

A Falls Creek Snow Pass Card is required to purchase lift tickets at the resort. They cost $5 to purchase and can be refilled with funds, similar to a Myki or Opal card for train transport.

The cards use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Technology, which is scanned automatically when guests approach a gate or lift, so you don’t need to take it out from your pocket.

Falls Creek Resort is currently reviewing its offers and pricing for the 2021 snow season. Check their website for updates closer to the start of snow season in June.

  • Safeguarding practices

During weekdays, Howmans Gap Alpine Centre primarily caters to large school groups who engage in our outdoor education programs.

Howmans Gap and the wider YMCA Camps network maintain a child-safety accreditation by embedding child-safe practices into everything we do.

These practices do limit accommodation availability for adult individual or group bookings during weekdays, as we must maintain separate spaces for school groups.

This requirement primarily affects availability of our communal bunk room accommodation. Our private cottages remain available to adult groups during weekdays.

Adult groups are still welcome to express interest in using our bunk room accommodation during weekdays.

Once you have express interest via the enquiry form below, a member of our team will touch base to confirm availability.

Learn more about the Y’s safeguarding practices and commitments.
